Identification

Confidence: low

Eviota storthynx has been described from the Philippines but there are no confirmed images of living or freshly caught specimens from the type location to define what it looks like underwater. Images for several specimens have been proposed to represent E. storthynx with slight differences between them. The species E. ancora and E. pseudozebrina also closely resemble these putative E. storthynx specimens. Dauin is relatively close to the type location and I will attempt to collect a few specimens. If they match the species description, the images and DNA barcode can be used to start sorting out the relationships between E. storthynx and close relaitves in other regions.

Described from Bungau (now Bongao), Sulu Province, Philippes (near NE Borneo). Other reports from eastern Malaysia and Vietnam east to Philippines and New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), north to Kagoshima Prefecture (southern Japan) and Ogasawara Islands (Japan); Western Australia.
